Christopher Barnard, MD, FAAD

Originally from Maryland, Dr. Christopher Barnard served aboard the USS Nimitz with Helicopter Squadron Nine before attending medical school at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio and an Internal Medicine residency at the University Hospitals of Cleveland. He completed his Dermatology residency at Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, California. Dr. Barnard recently relocated to La Jolla full-time from the Monterey Peninsula where he maintained a premier private practice in Dermatology, Cosmetic Dermatology, and Mohs Micrographic Surgery for 26 years. Dr. Barnard actively holds an academic appointment as an Adjunct Associate Clinical Professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine Department of Dermatology where he has taught the dermatology residents dermatologic surgery for many years.

He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology, a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Mohs Surgery. He previously served as a Board Member of the California Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, where he acted as representative for the Medical Board of California for legislative and regulatory issues that impact Dermatology and the private practice of medicine. Dr. Barnard also served as President and Secretary Treasurer of the San Francisco Dermatological Society.

Dr. Barnard remains active in research and development for Dermatology. He maintains a passion for medical informatics, non-invasive imaging of the skin, and teledermatology. He was the pioneer medical director of the Stanford Telemedicine Program and later served as Chief Executive Officer of Connections 365, Inc., a private teledermatology provider to underserved communities in California. His current focus is on cutaneous imaging methods for the rapid diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer.
