PRP for hair thinning is generally well-tolerated by patients. The procedure involves drawing a small amount of the patient’s blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets, and injecting the PRP back into the scalp or trouble area with a specialized syringe. The PRP is injected at approximately every half inch across the area of thinning hair.
The injections are shallow, so they aren’t painful for most patients. Before the injections, a topical numbing cream is also applied to minimize any potential discomfort. Most patients report only mild sensations during the injections, such as slight pressure or a pinprick feeling.
